Hi Friends,

This is my first post on the forum. I've been using my X3 for almost a year now but never really bothered to try out the DAC functionality after the FW3.3 update. Today tried to play music via USB-OTG from my Galaxy Note II. The DAC interface comes up on the X3 but there is no music output from headphones.

I then setup DAC on my Win10 PC. After the work-around with digital sig n stuff, got it to detect X3 as DAC but I have the same problem once again!

Since the device as such is working fine, I assume it isn't a HW issue. Couldn't find any pointers to this issue on the web. Perhaps I am doing something wrong in the process ?

Cheers
Bikenstein

Hi, bikenstein, X3 can be the dac to your smartphone. It is just used to your PC. To the win 10 compatible issue, pls try this: uninstalling the driver, disabling driver signature verification in Windows, restarting, and re-installing the driver.

Thanks for the quick response Yellow.. For me, the X3 is being detected as DAC both on PC and smartphone. Problem is that there is no music output from headphones in DAC mode. Tried changing the gain sliders but still no sound

Silly question. Have you tried turning up the volume on the X3? Since the X3 is being used as a DAC, the volume on the phone, and PC do not control the volume.

Do you use foobar? If so, you need to select the x3 dac to be the output device in foobar.

Also, you may need to enable this as the default playback device in Windows. Down in the taskbar (where the time and date are), right click on the speaker icon, and in the pop-up, choose "Playback Devices". This brings up a window that show all your output devices. While your device is hooked up and in DAC mode, you should see it listed there. Highlight it (left click it) and click the"Set Default" button.

As for Android, it is a bit wonky at times. I have had this happen myself, and just diconnect, and reconnect a few times to make this work. This was in Lollipop. There is an app on Google Play Store that allows for USB DAC connections via the phone (the app provides its own USB driver so that you can bypass the Android limitation of 16/44). I will have to dig it up. If you have anything prior to Lolipop, the USB driver for it was not implemented officially, and may or may not work properly/at all.  Here is an article talking about it: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Android-5.0-Lollipop-supports-USB-DAC-audio-devices-we-go-ears-on_id66399  Also, make sure you are using the correct cable, as there IS a difference. Some cables work, some don't.

Thanks a lot samandhi & Yellow for the support... Since it didn't work on the smartphone, I was already pessimistic while testing on the PC and how stupid of me not to have checked the audio out device! Set Fiio X3 as default device and the music now plays via DAC!

I need to try on the smartphone. I have a Galaxy Note II running 4.4.4 based custom ROM. I did a bit of googling and found USB Audio Player app on googleplay. Is this the one you were referring to ? I shall try it out since I'm not on Lolipop and update

Thanks again guys!

Glad to hear you got it working on both PC AND your phone. That USB Audio Player is the app I was talking about. If you have found one that works, you don't have to get that app, as it is not free. It IS a good app anyhow IF you are trying to playback anything higher than 16/44, because the build in driver for Android will not allow anything higher.
